Great Comfort in God's Word

This morning...

Do you ever have those mornings where you think, "God, I just need a little bit more grace today than usual!"

I'm not disclosing any details, but I received some "trying news" last night and it weighed on my mind through the evening, night and this morning. I was thinking early this morning, "God, help me trust You more." I am so weak; so quick to whine and complain...

While reading this morning I came across this text and it brought me comfort; God in His wisdom allowed me to read of this awesome exchange between Christ and Nathanael.

John 1:46 - 50
46Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. (I can't help but think of me and my sour attitude here.)
47Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
48Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him,
Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
49Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
50Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.

I don't know what Nathanael was thinking about, but I'm sure this interaction isn't "awe-inspiring" just because Jesus knew WHERE he was physically. I believe whatever Nathanael was doing or thinking about while under the tree is why he has a "jaw-dropping" moment.

My Father knows what is on my heart and mind and He knows my flaws. He understands the trouble and issues I will have to deal with before I EVEN EXPERIENCE them... He is not limited to just Creator of the Universe, but He personaly and intimately cares for me. Praise God!

August 2nd

Marc and I are going to do this promotional invite with Play-Doh for our Sunday School class, the College and Career Department. I don't want to go into to much detail right now, but if you have a moment please pray for our young adults at Lakeview.

I will go into more detail later, but please pray accordingly:

1. God will receive the maximum glory in all things we do.

2. The class will grow, not just numerically, but more importantly in Christ.

3. The class will begin to engage our town and county with the Gospel.

Mark Tolson: China

Again, I'm just amazed by some of the guys who I am some-what affiliated with through my short participation with BCWE. I posted one of Andrew Pearson's videos in an earlier article, but I FINALLY checked out Mark's Vimeo page.

Half-way through the video you will see Jake Taube translating a message into Chinese to a FULL church in China. Praise God!

Check it out!

He is no Fool...

I've kind of been on this mission's kick as of late, and today is no exception. I found a picture of Jim Elliot's journel where he penned his most famous quote...

Hands down, he is one of the biggest influence on the church as a whole of the past 50 years...

You will find the quote underlined.

He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.

Where is your treasure?

I found this video while cruising Austin Gardner's blog.

Andrew Pearson produced this video sometime back. I saw it a long time ago, but had forgot about it. The video gets really interesting at around 35 seconds... that doesn't mean you fast forward though... LOL Andrew was my roommate while I was in Peru; that poor guy!

Lakeview Baptist Church Update!

Mike is starting a new study, going through the book of Hebrews on Wednesday nights! I know I'm looking forward to this study; there are some texts within this book that I am anticipating coming across...
If you can't make it to the Bible Study on Wednesday nights, you could probably ask for the message to be sent to you. Go to our website and make your request known! (Email Mike) LOL Or you can email me... I don't care.

Biblical Stress Management 101

This is Part II...

How does a believer deal with stress in their life in a Christ-like manner?

Here is the time to ask an interesting question:

Did Jesus ever experience stress and was He ever “stressed out?”

Yes. Having to face being separated from God the Father, Jesus begins to sweat blood while praying asking for God to “let the cup pass…”

Stress over your relationship with God.

Luke 22:41-44 (Do you think Jesus was stressed?)

Who has stressed over that lately?

Ultimately we understand that the best way to deal with stress or being “stressed out” is to be stressed; a day should never go by in which we do not stress over our relationship with Christ! He is the ultimate example of how to deal with stress.
Also, check out:

Hebrews 12:2-3
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.”

Christ dealt with stress with peace, poise and power – because He had His Father’s perspective. Christ challenges us to have the same perspective.

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus”
Philippians 2:5

We must yield to Christ our every concern and follow Him in complete obedience. We sometimes think following Christ is hard but read what He says!

Matthew 11:28-30

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

And when the times get the toughest, and the stress seems almost unbearable, remember the words of Peter.

“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

I Peter 5:6-7

Billy Mays

I can't believe this guy is gone either... Wow...

Two things to remember about Billy Mays:

1. Greatest beard ever sported by an American.
2. ALWAYS be ready to meet the Lord; no one knows the hour that has been appointed for their departure.

This guy could sell anything... very sad he's gone. I hope he was ready.
